Scattered
I used to be a master multi-tasker. As a Gemini, it came naturally. I’ll admit there were times I did it just to show off. When friends and family dropped in I’d be sure they’d catch me cooking a five-course meal, answering email and writing an article while standing on one leg and singing the theme from Evita (backwards) while trimming the cats’ nails between verses.
Then last month Andrew tore his quad tendon. Since that long, long night at Emergency and subsequent surgery, I’m lucky to brush my teeth before noon. If dinner can’t be thrown in one pan and left unattended in the oven for an hour, it doesn’t get made. I even forget to feed the pets on occasion — once for three days. When I eventually figured out what all the caterwauling was about the best I could do was toss some kibble at the empty bowls as I raced past to yet another physio appointment. As for the blog? You’re kidding, right?
There are no homemade rumballs or shortbread in my fridge. No tinsel or coloured lights festoon anything anywhere on my property, and the only stockings hung with care are Andrew’s new $120 custom-made compression socks. But we aren’t totally without Yuletide fun. The rainbow of Therabands dangling from door handles adds a rather festive touch.
So you’ll have to forgive my unanticipated absence and trust me when I say was going to post about some nifty food-related iPhone / iPad apps for the frazzled. But that will have to wait for tomorrow. Just like the partially crafted post on cookbooks. You see, it’s almost noon, my teeth remain unbrushed, the cats are hungry and we’re late for physio. But don’t cry for me. We’re doing okay. I’m just no longer a multi-tasker.
