Green with Coffee Roasting Envy

Turn that frown upside down, White- Westinghouse Popper. Thanks to Carolyn Erikson, her coffee roasting husband and my inability to toss things out in a timely fashion, you’ve been granted a stay of execution.

Today, while reading Carolyn’s detailed blog post, I learned we don’t have to re-mortgage the house or sell the cats to venture into the world of home roasting. Carolyn claims her husband started his hobby with little more than a handful of green beans and a hot air corn popper.

One item down. One to go.
I did a little sleuthing, and I can buy green coffee beans from around the world in Toronto at The Green Beanery. Organic, decaf, Ugandan, Costa Rican… you name it. The only type missing was Kopi Luwak, the ultra-expensive brew “processed” through civet cats. Hey, if push comes to shove we’ve got two felines, one of which will eat anything…

With these unaltered beans costing a fraction of Andrew’s favourite Starbucks French roast, this experiment won’t break the bank. If the popper doesn’t work, we’ll move onto the cast iron frying pan and wooden spoon method.

If we’re successful? This could actually end up saving us enough money to buy Starbucks that much needed apostrophe.
