March Issue of Guelph Life

Does the model on the cover of this month’s Guelph Life look a tad familiar? Well, she should. C’est moi!

Even though this is a regional lifestyle magazine, I’ve been humming Dr. Hook’s “On The Cover of the Rolling Stone” all day. Yes, it dates me. And I don’t care.

I’m also keenly aware that this is a classic example of how life — or in this case Guelph Life — isn’t fair. All over town gaggles of 16-year-old girls are rolling their eyes and saying, “Whatever!” I feel for them. They spend all their babysitting money on modeling lessons and back issues of Flare, and without even trying some 45-year-old gardener with all the fashion sense of Ellen Degeneres lands the cover gig. Well, I didn’t land the cover. My garden did. But deep in a mid-January beauty sleep, it was in no condition to be photographed. So, I posed in lieu of my knockout roses.

I’m at a complete loss as to how to tie this in with food. So, I won’t even try. Instead, I’ll leave you with some photos of my garden and a few borrowed lyrics from the good Doctor:

Now it’s all designed to blow our minds
But our minds won’t really be blown
Like the blow that’ll get you when you get your picture
