The Messy Baker Cookbook

The Messy Baker by Charmian ChristieThe Messy Baker Cookbook

THE MESSY BAKER is an ode to “real world” baking where cookies aren’t identical and the ugly, lumpy scone is the cook’s reward.

But don’t mistake messy for careless. From The Basics of what a baker ought to have in the kitchen to Demystifying Pastry, The Messy Baker is bursting with helpful tips and tools for an authentic kitchen. Christie even arms readers with an emergency substitution table for everything from butter to pumpkin seeds. While beginners will love the well thought out instructions, experienced bakers will embrace the praise-worthy results.

Recipes range from savory to sweet, breakfast to dinner, with delectable and unexpected combinations. Christie takes classic recipes and adds her own flavourful twists. The results? Deep Dark Cherry & Chipotle Brownies or Piglet Muffins with Caramelized Bacon. In keeping with her unconventional but logical approach, Christie organizes recipes by mess factor — Flaky, Crumbly, Dippable, Sloppy, Smudgy, Gritty, and Drippy.

Follow the Messy Manifesto and leave the frustration of collapsed cakes and smeared frosting behind. With more than 75 deliciously messy recipes and 70 mouth-watering photos, The Messy Baker is an authentic, must-have cookbook that celebrates real baking in all its boisterous, sloppy, slurp-able glory. Between the stories, the tips and the recipes themselves, this book is an ideal gift for all home cooks, whether new or seasoned, neat or messy.

Available in stores and online, The Messy Baker is available in paperback and as a Kindle e-book. So clear some space on your cookbook shelf and charge up your e-reader. The Messy Baker is on her way.

  • This is one of the best cookbooks I have! I’ve been baking for decades. and I still learned a lot from The Messy Baker. Not only that, but I enjoy Charmian’s humour and writing style. This cookbook belongs in the kitchen of anyone who likes to bake, or would like to learn. I urge you to buy it and then go make a mess in the kitchen! (And no, this post was in no way solicited … just sharing a must-have book.)

  • Wow. Thanks so much for your enthusiastic endorsement — especially since you’re a seasoned baker. I know this is a crowded field and being noticed is a real honour! I also appreciate you taking the time to share what you like about the book.
