January’s Official Duties
I’m hopelessly behind in my culinary duties. One trip to FoodReference.com and I’m in a tizzy. Who knew one month could be responsible for so much? You’d think January would be given light duties having carried in the new year. But no. If your birthstone is a garnet, no less than eleven events are hogging your limelight.
Perhaps the Assigner of Official Months (and you know there’s a government employee in some broom-closet-of-an-office with this on their business card) got carried away in a burst of New Year enthusiasm.
Well, I can’t possibly address all the issues with only a few days to go. Instead, I’ve listed all of January’s culinary obligations and linked to previous blogs, be they applicable, contrary or in need of some attention:
- Bread Machine Baking Month – I don’t own a bread machine. See why.
- Fat Free Living Month – As if. Okay, here’s one recipe that’s fat free.
- International Coffee Gourmet Month – Only in January? Pity!
- National Book Month – Ditto.
- National Dried Plum Breakfast Month – You’re joking. No? I got nothin’.
- National Fiber Focus Month – Okay, but don’t tell anyone.
- National Hot Tea Month – Don’t try this at home.
- National Retail Bakers Month – Sometimes you need heavy machinery.
- National Soup Month – Makes sense.
- Oatmeal Month – Scotland will be proud.
- Wheat Bread Month – Is it me or is bread being a tad pushy?
You read and I’ll get a jump start on February. Five bucks says they’ll be honouring chocolate.
