Happy Canada Day (belated) and 4th of July (early)

Yesterday, I’d meant to wish everyone a Happy Canada Day (or Dominion Day, in the case of my husband). But that didn’t happen.

I blame the carbs.

The day started with pancakes and waffles on the patio — with just enough protein to keep us level. Add in the strawberries and whipped cream and you can see how I was too stupified by sugar to find the keyboard. It was all I could do to grab the camera and keep my hands steady.

After gorging, it was some games and general silliness before the long-awaited summer heat claimed its victims. The results?

A true summer celebration.

So, a belated Happy Dominion of Canada Day to my Canadian friends. I hope you were too busy with family and friends to notice my absence.

And to my American friends, an early Happy Fourth of July. I don’t have a Stars and Stripes to wave but consider this platter of red, white and blue an edible salute to the flag.

I’ll be back July 11th. Once I hit “publish” on this post, I’m officially a vacation. A real vacation. Not a kitchen-reno-enforced absence, knee-injury hiatus or wave-the-white-flag swamp break. A real vacation. One that won’t involve dust, doctor’s appointments, or a computer. One that allows for unhurried second (or third) cups of coffee, spontaneous afternoon naps and irresponsible meal choices.

Will I tell you about it when I’m back? Maybe. Maybe not. After all, what happens in Montreal stays in Montreal.

Au revoir ’til then.
