Local Saturday — Shepherd’s Watch
You’ll have to forgive me. I can’t resist this. Shepherd’s Watches covers everything…
From feet to meat.
Shepherd’s Watch is a local dairy sheep farm that produces everything ewe-ish — from wool socks to lamb chops, yogurt to yarn. They make artisan sheep cheese and sell fresh sheep milk, which is often a good dairy alternative to those allergic to cow and goat.
Lynda and Carol’s sheep are free-range, munching on 140 acres of pesticide-free land. They’re raised with no hormones, pesticides or injections. Even the wool is 100% pure, with no artificial dyes or manmade fibres spun into the mix.
My friend Sheila has gobbled their gouda and was more than a little impressed. As an unrepentant knitting addict I’m afraid to admit I’m as intrigued by their skeins as with their cheese.
Shepherd’s Watch gives tours and welcomes you to visit their farm in Arthur. I’m very weak when it comes to wool products and can’t trust myself to leave without a trunk load of knitting products, so would like to live vicariously through someone with more will power. Anyone been?
With handmade chocolate, vegetables, fruits, breads, a birding center and custom photography framing, their farm has everything but a website.
They’re at the Guelph Farmers’ Market every Saturday, so drop by for more details about farm tours and free deliveries.
In the meantime, I’ve got this overwhelming urge to make a toque.
