Grocery Scare
The horrifying listeria outbreak is all over the news. Since I don’t eat or buy cold meats, I didn’t think much about it. Until I went grocery shopping today and this was taped to the automatic doors. Makes it hard to ignore.
Then I went to the produce stand for garlic.
Those who are not familiar with my blog should know I live in the agricultural heart of Southern Ontario. It’s the height of harvest season. While the price of this must-have herb didn’t scare me, the sourcing did.
Realizing this particular store focuses on price cutting, I went to one that advertises itself as being a little more upscale. Guess what I found?
Is Canada out of garlic or common sense?
I understand importing pineapples, lychees and mangoes, but I refuse to buy a product that has been trekked half way across the globe when we grow it half a mile down the road.
As I made a mental note to buy garlic at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning, I whipped my cart around and got the biggest scare of the outing…
