Whisky Works – As the Barrel Turns (Episode 27)
This week, As the Barrel Turns welcomes Jim Estill, blogger, runner and self-proclaimed “business guy who sells computers.” Jim’s a busy fellow, but still found the time after completing the 10-Miler to drop by and lend a helping hand with the cask rotation. Since the race, part of the Canada Running Series, took place in Toronto’s Distillery district, we thought Jim would bring some much needed luck to our mysteriously evaporating barrel.
However, after a 10-mile run and 100 Ks of horrendous 401 traffic, Jim was too tired to perform his duties unaided.
Fortunately, Jim’s son David was nearby. Like father; like son. The strapping 22-year-old was more than willing to lend a hand.
The turn successfully completed, the guests closed the deal with a business-like handshake. (We Christie’s hug.)
Before letting Jim go, we picked his brains for business advice about our whisky aging enterprise. Jim took one look at the situation and said, “Bigger barrels and more of them.”
Now why didn’t we think of that?
