Whisky Works – As the Barrel Turns (Episode 22)
Last week’s bout with the angel might have stopped the whisky loss, but wasn’t the end of our problems. Seems that without the angel’s protection and blessing, we’re vulnerable to the fiendish mischief of barrel blight.
Fortunately, we know a wizard who goes by the ancient mystical name of Stan. Within minutes of our call, Stan arrives to see what he can do to intercede on our behalf.
When shown the evidence, Wizard Stan draws upon his vast well of knowledge and reveals a little known whisky fact. In some circles, “angel’s share” translates to “protections money.”
What did Brown do for us?
Proved that no good deed goes unpunished.
After swearing us to secrecy, Stan pulls out his trusty pocket claymore, a little-known Celtic accessory, and utters an arcane incantation, opening the door for the petulant angel’s return.
In thanks, Andrew tries to repay Stan with an airline bottle of Lagavulin which has been sitting on the shelf collecting dust since the ill-fated salad dressing arrived. Stan refuses saying it’s too peaty, but we suspect he spots something more to his liking.
Asti Spumante! Suits his bubbly personality.
A quick rotation and Stan leaves with a bottle of sparkling wine and a word of warning.
“Better the devil you know.”
