Blogathon and Almond Coriander Curry
Two points of order for today. First, I’ve entered a blogathon. Don’t panic. I’m too lazy to blog myself to death. This blogathon’s slogan is, “A blog a day for the month of May.” That’s 31 posts. Now that I’m two posts in, I’m wishing they’d done this in February.
However, In honour of the blogathon, I’ve added a special link section listing the other participants. All are professional writers, so if curiosity gets the best of you, fear not. You won’t get stuck reading some illiterate blather about mean bosses or a numbing blow-by-blow of Chelsey’s most recent trip to The Gap.
The second point of today’s blog is actually the promised report on Rouxbe’s online cooking videos. I must say I’m impressed. The instructions for Almond Coriander Chicken were straight forward without being insulting. The voice over was calm but upbeat. No one shouted, sang or made up cute terms for common food items. The pseudo-Indian background music became somewhat annoying, but the video was only 3 1/2 minutes, so I can’t really complain.
Rouxbe even offered 1-minute “drill-down” videos for certain ingredients and techniques used in the recipe. The best part? I finally found out why I have trouble de-boning chicken breasts.
The recipe itself was good but not stellar. I like my spicing a bit more intense. I’d also cut back on the salt, but I’ve an aversion to sodium-laced food, so you can’t go by me.
This is what their chicken looks like with rice on the side.
This is what mine looked like over rice.
They had better lighting. My bowl is prettier.
I’m tempted to try their Cod Provencal, but the narrator mispronounces “basil”. Maybe Rachel Ray isn’t so bad after all?
