Michael Phelps might be breaking records in the pool, but David McGinn gets gold for his piece in yesterday’s Globe and Mail. His “Eat Like Mike” is one of the funniest pieces of writing I’ve read in a long, long time. McGinn decides to tackle Phelps’s 12,000-calorie-a-day, carb-heavy diet and fails — with hilarious results.

Unlike Olympic sports, humour writing is much harder than it looks, and McGinn pulls this feat off flawlessly. I don’t normally point you to a link, say “Read This!” and then leave, but this piece speaks for itself.

So, read this!

That WAS a great read. Here's my favorite part:

"I'm surprised the guy doesn't finish off the day with 16 quarts of double-churned chocolate ice cream topped with an M&M the size of a country ham."

That would be some M&M, no?

The article was funny, but I liked the pic of the blueberry pancakes. What a shot! They look so good. Yummm!

Whenever I hear about Michael Phelp’s diet, I’m reminded of King Edward (whose name marks the Edwardian period) who ate like a cow.

Too bad for Eddie he hadn’t discovered the pool ’cause dude was fat!

How is Phelps not simply glowing from the sheer amount of energy he is processing?
