Wordless Wednesday: You Gotta Break A Few Eggs

19 Jan Wordless Wednesday: You Gotta Break A Few Eggs

Clearly I’m not to be trusted. One day I announce to the world that I’m not going to get all bent out of shape over photography any more and the next? While judging the 2010 Canadian Food Blog Awards I get so excited by the gorgeous shots I run right out and buy a new lens. And of course, in order to claim it as a legitimate business expense, I have to use it.

So, I’ve decided to try out Wordless Wednesdays. I’ll likely stick to a culinary theme, but you might be subjected to the odd cat photo or garden snap. Be warned. I might get frustrated and drop out of the program. Or I might turn this blog into a silent retreat. You just never know with me. I can’t be trusted.

So, here’s my first Wordless Wednesday post.

(Okay, this post isn’t wordless. But in future. On Wednesdays I’ll post a photo. No explanation. Just a shot that appeals to me on some level. You can comment. Or not. You can post suggestions for approval. Or not. You can call me a liar.) Here I go…

@Kathryn, you know me. I just can’t shut up. Maybe next week I’ll actually be able to post a wordless picture. We’ll see. After, I can’t be trusted.

Which lens did you buy and why? Just started a new photography course so getting all geeky about it.

@Sally, I bought a very simple, unsexy Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. I bought it because a) it would give me great depth of field and b) it was affordable ($140 Cdn). I’m wanting to capture more “in the moment” shots and my macro lens needs lots of light.

I actually wanted a 50mm macro lens, but it was more than $400 and I just couldn’t justify the expense. This lens likely won’t last many years given its plastic mount, but it’s a real workhorse and by the time I wear it out, I’ll be ready for a higher end lens.

      Hope this helps. Keep snapping!

@Charmian Christie, That lens is one of the most under-rated and best-kept-secrets of the Canon set. Is fab for everything.

And I like your idea of the wordless Wednesdays. I think I might try that around my home. 😉

@Jill, thanks for weighing in on the lens. Reviews were mixed but I’m loving it.

Great idea for Wednesdays. I love photography.
Each mid week you are actually saying 1000 words, according to the old saying.
Today’s pic says either lovely relaxed weekend breakfast, or frantic emergency supper to me. Funny how one image can range to both ends of the spectrum.
    Love,
    Robin

@Robin Smart, it was lovely relaxed weekend. Emergency supper for me is yogurt and granola.

Good point about the 1000 words. I won’t feel so bad next week when I just slap up a photo and let your imaginations run wild.

Oh yes, and come by for waffles sometime. They are AMAZING.
