Last Chance for Rouxbe Lifetime Membership

Last Chance for Rouxbe Lifetime Membership

When I joined my gym, I felt the pressure to act quickly so as not to miss out on the special low-low price and no-no initiation fee that expired at the end of the month. That was in June. July? They extended the offer. And August? Yup, they pushed that drop-dead date back another month. Now it’s September and once again the offer is good only until the end of the month. Five bucks says they’ll have an October special for Canadian Thanksgiving.

While I needed to join a gym, like the staff and adore my yoga instructor, I no longer pay attention to the rallying cry of their limited time offers. Free towels this week only? Yeah, right. I’ll catch you when mine wears out.

So, when I tell you Rouxbe Online Cooking School stops selling Lifetime Memberships as of tomorrow at 11:59 PM,  I’m not trying to pressure you. I cross my flour-covered fingers and swear on my Aunt Hilda’s pastry board that this is really, truly your last chance to gain full and permanent access to all of Rouxbe’s recipes, quizzes and videos. For added incentive, they have lowered the price to $250 ($50 off the regular price). If you miss the deadline? As of 12:01 AM, September 16, 2010, you can purchase a monthly membership ($15) or an annual membership ($99), but the lifetime version is gone for good.

How do I know? I’m a Rouxbe affiliate and they wouldn’t lie to me.

Not sure you want to commit? Check out the videos from two  recent posts. One meat. One veg. How balanced is that?

Like what you see? Run, don’t walk to Rouxbe Online Cooking School. No free towels with this workout, but then again, this offer won’t come again.

    Hi Everyone,
    {from Joe Girard, Co-Founder of the Rouxbe Cooking School}

Nas, you are alert! First of all let me say that Rouxbe will never offer a Lifetime option again as one of our tuition plans. You can view the current options here (http://rouxbe.com/membership).

As many of you may know, there are a lot of great “flash sale sites” on the web, like Groupon, Living Social and of course, Gilt. A few weeks ago we were approached by Gilt to offer a limited time discount and special offer to their members. Being a company that survives on revenue generation through the delivery of quality online learning products, we thought that this might be a great way for us to reach a new audience, attract a few new students and at the same time generate some revenue.

We decided that it might make sense to test a limited time offer on one of our more popular products – the Lifetime Membership. I realize that we said that we wouldn’t sell this product anymore and all I can say is I’m sorry. I am NOT going to try to justify our actions in any other way than to be honest and say we changed our minds to test this short-term opportunity to generate money that we can re-invest into developing new content and features for Rouxbe. Was it a bad decision? Maybe. Was it a going back on our word? Yes. No excuses here.

One thing that I should mention here at Rouxbe is that user-experience and content are King. We’ve spent 5 years now turning away advertiser after advertiser that wanted to place ads before and around our content. We have turned all of these revenue opportunities away because, in our opinion, they only degrade user-experience. However, this means that we’ve had to raise addition investment dollars and find creative ways to reach new audiences and to sell our product. Our partnership with Christies’ Corner was one of these opportunities to reach a new audience in a way that does not degrade our users’ experience or Christies’ Corner (we hope). At Rouxbe, it’s all about learning how to become a better and more confident cook….nothing else will get in the way of this mission.

Does our test sale with Gilt detract from this? We hope not and certainly didn’t think so when we decided to offer this Lifetime Membership.

We are sorry if you or anyone else felt mislead. We are certainly not perfect and yes, we will make mistakes from time to time. I’m happy to extend the Lifetime opportunity (until December 8) to any readers that might have felt mislead. Just drop me a note at jgirard [@] rouxbe.com anytime.

And, ethically speaking, thanks Nas for keeping us on our toes :-).

Tried contacting Joe Girard at the email shown above regarding the lifetime membership confusion. Seems it’s not a valid email address posted above. I tried leaving out the [ ] characters as I’ve never seen that in an email before. The email went out okay (ie. not returned), but so far I’ve not received any response back from him. Possibly because he is away on Christmas vacation?

@Tom B, thanks for the note. I’ve emailed you privately, CCing Joe so this should be resolved quickly.

Disregard above message – I did hear from Joe. Purchasing the membership for my wife. I’ll be in her good books for years! Once again, thanks for the assistance.

@Tom B, phew! Thanks for the updates, Tom. I’m sure your wife will be thrilled with this gift. I hope you managed to get it to her on time.

    Happy cooking in 2011.

Charmain, thrilled is an understatement! She loves gourmet cooking, would love to attend a culinary school but it’s just not possible, and thinks this membership is pretty darn close to that. It’s an amazing gift, and I am very grateful I could get it for her. Thanks, and happy cooking to you too!

@Tom B, glad this worked out. And a membership IS very close to attending culinary school. In some ways better — no pressure to perform in front of others, you can repeat lessons as often as you like, and they’re open 24/7.

Wishing you and your wife many happy and tasty meals together!

    Can I buy lifetime membership?

Sorry, but lifetime memberships haven’t been available since December 2010. However, you can sign up for a free two-week trial, which gives you unlimited access to the entire site, to see if you find their videos, recipes and forums of value. If so, monthly or yearly options are available.

To sign up for a free 14-day trial, click here. There is no obligation to join after the trial.
