Happy 7th Anniversary

05 Oct Happy 7th Anniversary

Charmian and Andrew - October 5, 2002

Break out the Gold Bond powder ’cause any second I’m gonna start itching like a monkey on a fuzzy tree. Today is our 7th wedding anniversary.

Not bad for a card-carrying carnivore and a former vegetarian.

What’s our secret? Andrew doesn’t touch my good knives and maintains a stash of chocolate hidden throughout the house in case I need an emergency dosing. On my end, I no longer sob inconsolably when he awards first prize for “best apple pie” to his mother — and second place to his brother. I also developed a homemade ranch dressing he can consume with impunity.

To celebrate our 7th, instead of dining in a high-class restaurant or exchanging expensive gifts, Andrew and I are spending the day together at the Ethnic & Specialty Food Expo. And he’s genuinely excited about it. In my books, nothing says I love you like sampling unfamiliar fare and watching Dutch cooking demonstrations when you should be home marking student book reviews.

Oh yes, and he also does the laundry, ensures I never run out of organic milk for my morning latte and makes me laugh when I’m getting stressed out about tech issues.

What gestures of support do you treasure above money?

Obviously he’s a keeper, Charmian – and so are you! Happy anniversary.

Thanks, Anna. And congratulations on your recent marriage. I saw some of the photos on Facebook and you looked GORGEOUS.

Happy Anniversary! You share it with my Hubby’s birthday. Except when you got married we were celebrating in a uber-cheesy fashion at a dank karaoke bar.
I am spoiling him with a chocolate on chocolate with chocolate dipped in chocolate with chocolate sauce on the side birthday cake. Oh, and new hockey skates.
Isn’t it always the surprising gestures that get you? I was away for work last week and when I walked in the door on Friday he was serving up a hot dinner. And the boy barely cooks!

Cheryl, my teeth hurt just hearing about your uber-chocolate birthday ideas. And I get the hockey skates thing. Did you have to put them in the oven like Andrew did? The new ones apparently need to mold to your feet.

Love the hot dinner “I love you” — especially from a non-cook.

Yes, a happy anniversary to you both, Charmian. I feel like even though I don’t know either of you, I know both of you, and if that makes sense even though it doesn’t, then you know me, too.

I’m impressed that you let Andrew do the laundry. I won’t let Colin within 45 feet of mine.

    Many happy returns!

Cheryl, you make perfect sense. Not sure what that means about us, but I like it!

As for the laundry? Andrew has been trained NOT to put certain clothes in the wash and I no longer buy anything that must be dry cleaned or says “hand wash only”. Life’s too short for that nonsense.

Congratulations. We are ever so pleased you brought Andrew to the family!!
I thought the real celebration was the anniversary of my getting my 44 year old ears pierced for the wedding – 7 years and 6 weeks ago. Have fun at the Expo.

How selfish of me. Yes, it was the 7th anniversary of my sister’s ear-piercing. Such sacrifices should not go unmentioned.

Happy (slightly belated) anniversary, my friend! Like Andrew, Lowell does laundry (also vacuums, cleans house and cooks occasionally). He also provides chocolate and his bestest charm is that he provided the funds for my flight to Montreal this past weekend so I could go to a David Cook concert AND see some of my dearly beloved PWAC friends. (could you move to Montreal, please? I’m never gonna get to Guelph).

Oh, Jodi, Lowell is a keeper too. Hope you had a great time at the Cook concert and visiting the PWACers. I can’t move to Montreal, but it’s such a gorgeous city I’d be happy to rendez-vous with you there!

I love that photo, and your celebration plans sound perfect. One of my favorite things about that boy I married all these years ago is that when I’m really excited about something and ask, “Are you proud of me?” He answers, “I’m always proud of you.”

Roxanne, your “boy” sounds wonderful. You cannot put a price on emotional support like that!!

Happy belated anniversary! Did I actually meet you on your wedding anniversary – how cool is that!

Meeting you was a lovely anniversary treat. I’m so lucky to have a husband who is willing to go to this sort of thing with me. Wish we could have talked longer but it was great to finally meet face to face.
