Cuisine Canada Blog

Learning new software is a bit like cooking on a new stove. While the concept is the same, the oven light switch is in a different location, the knobs work in unexpected ways (why didn’t anyone tell me you had to push them in first?) and until you’re used to the elements’ quirks, you’ll burn things.

I’ve been learning WordPress for the newly launched Cuisine Canada blog, and today I ruined my post. Three times. First my lovely carrot photo wouldn’t load. Then the formatting went AWOL, leaving me with an unreadable block of text. And finally, the software seized like it was a chi-chi pot of melted chocolate and I was a big blob of water.

If rebooting hadn’t fixed the situation, I would have been a big blob of water — spilling tears all over the keyboard and short circuiting my aging computer. Fortunately, I got the post up, but it took 2 hours and added several dollars to the cuss jar.

This is all an elaborate way of telling you I’m now involved with Cuisine Canada’s new blog. If you’re interested in learning about Canadian ingredients, culinary events, cookbooks, chefs and food news, we’ll be discussing it there.

If you’re not, don’t worry. I’ll still be here, Monday to Friday.

I’ve had enough of computers for one morning, so am signing off. As a thank you for dropping by, here’s a little pre-Valentine’s Day food porn. Chocolate and raspberries. Does it get any better?

Congratulations on this new venture, Charmian! You will achieve tech-goddess status before too long. Exciting!

I admire your tenacity. I know you will triumph and the carrot photo will live. I learned something new in Word and felt proud. You should be bursting with success.
    Hang in there.
    Love,
    Robin

I don’t like WordPress one bit; have had to use it a couple of times and it’s resulted in a lot of bad language out of me. Good luck with the new blog–I’ll look in now and again though I’m not a foodie, of course. And the food porn is awesome!

I will absolutely be checking out the CC blog – good luck with the tech issues. I’m sorry you were so frustrated today. I’m on wordpress so just let me know if I can ever be of assistance.

Okay, totally off topic: can you explain why anyone would like Rachel Rae? She’s on Good Morning America, which I’m suffering through b/c David Cook is performing on the show. Good GAWD she’s annoying, and whatever she was cooking looked like a dog threw up in a pot. I just had to have a rantrum somewhere and this looked like a good place to do it.

Cheryl, thanks. I’m hardly a tech-goddess but I take strength from your support.

Robin, isn’t it wonderful when you learn a new feature? I’m hanging in, it’s my computer that’s not so sure it wants to play.

Jodi, WordPress isn’t too bad. I think it just didn’t want to play with my Mac.

Dana, thanks for the offer of help. I think a new laptop will solve my main concerns, but if I hit a WordPress snag, I’ll be calling you.

Jodi, I’m addressing your Rachel Ray question separately. I know you’re not posing a serious question, but it’s plagued me for a long time, too. Here’s what I’ve come up with…

    She targets her market perfectly.

Busy moms with 30 minutes to get a meal on the table? She cooks EVERYTHING on camera (nothing chopped ahead of time, no pre-cooked items pulled from the oven as a cheat). People know they can do it in the time limit. While the results might look like dog puke, her recipes aren’t intimidating. You just know viewers take one look at her lop-sided offerings and think, “I can do that!”

I find watching her exhausting, but you can only assume her high energy is motivating to some.

Hope it was worth watching to catch your beloved David Cook.

Glad you dropped by to rant. I thought I was the only one who blew a gasket over this kind of thing.
