Beatles Buffet

Saturday, February 7, 2009 marked the 45th anniversary of the Beatles’ arrival in North America. To celebrate, my friend Theresa hosted an Across the Universe party. Great food and bad puns set the mood as we watched the video and sang along.

I apologize to the Fab Four for butchering their music. I apologize to you for posting grainy photos and worse puns. Here, in all its flash-washed glory, is a glimpse of the lyrically-inspired food we gobbled between songs.

Who could resist chocolate-dipped Strawberry Fields?

Olive You Need is Love and a few bits of pimento…

We all need a yellow fruit platter, a yellow fruit platter, a yellow fruit platter…

I once had a gouda…

Come on baby, have a pretzel…

Sergeant Pumpernickel’s Lonely Spinach Dip…

Eleanor Rigby brought these…

Great way to get Baby Boomers to eat their veggies…

Salmon-thing in the way she moves? Worst pun of the night.

My battery died before I could snap a shot of Spinal-Cracker (Jack) Caramel Corn.

There will be lots of other Beatles firsts this year and I’m out of ideas. Got any culinary suggestions to honour the Lads from Liverpool?

One of the Woodside Jonses, it’s hard to keep up with you!

Dana, it was a blast. But now I have Beatles tunes meandering through my brain like a restless wind inside a letter box.

FUNNY, wow. Now I know why Coldplay were dressed up like the Beatles last night at the Grammy Awards. I didn’t put two and two together.

How about Yesterday’s Leftovers? Or I Wanna Hold Your Ham Sandwich? Eleanor Rigatoni?

If I think of more, I’ll let you know, but I have a feeling you’ve heard more than enough from me already.

    Here Comes the Sun(dae)?

OH I love it!!! Sounds like it was a smashing jolly good time!

Cheryl, I think Hey Juice is my favourite, although Eleanor Rigatoni appeals to my love of pasta and Here Comes the Sun(dae) means ice cream…

Francesca, it was a blast. I’m now tempted to do this with all the Beatle movies.

Great idea. But my crowd isn’t such big Beatles fans. My guests would recognize Jimmy Buffett lyrics more readily.

How about Reeses peanut butter cups for cometogether.

Julie, for some reason we drank French maritinis during this party. Not very British. The only item I can think to serve at a Jimmy Buffett party would be Margaritas. But then, would you need anything else?

    Netts Nook, clever concept!

This is hilarious. Wish I’d thought of it. I see a cook book waiting to happen about funny themed parties and the food you could make for them.
