Upside Down Eater

Upside Down Eater

Somedays. I’m an upside down eater. Couldn’t face breakfast this morning before the dentist’s. Came home cavity-free and had leftover dinner for lunch. Then at 6:00 this evening I chowed down on a bowl of yogurt and berries topped with homemade granola.

Anyone else have days when their stomach refuses to read the clock?

Sure. It began with cold pizza for breakfast back at Agricultural College, and has gone from there. I’m contemplating cereal myself tonight, except someone drank all the milk at suppertime (when we had pancakes.) Well, Mungus didn’t have pancakes but he certainly shared the milk.

When Oliver was little, we used to have backwards dinners sometimes: dessert first, then the savoury stuff. It was an easy way to make dinner a fun event.

Life is uncertain: eat dessert first…words to live by.

I have never been a big fan of “traditional” breakfast fare, and remember my mom letting me eat cold cuts for breakfast before going to school, because, hey, it was something. I have to force myself to eat in the morning, because given my druthers, breakfast would be black coffee…with my first meal arriving around noon. I am NOT a morning eater by nature and am amazed when my husband can roll out of bed and be eating 5 minutes later. I need more time than that to ease into the day.

When I was single, I would eat cereal for dinner if I had to be out of the house fast…or popcorn…now, alas, I must feed the family. My family likes eggs for dinner…and my daughter loves pancakes anytime…as long as i cook them in the shape of a heffalump.

Jodi, cold pizza isn’t a breakfast food?

Dana, you let your kids eat dessert first, have soup for breakfast (from a previous comment for those who missed it) AND do latte art? You get Mother of the Year award from me. My grandmother used to let us eat dinner backwards, too. I hadn’t thought about that in years. Wow. I just teared up thinking about it. Thanks for the memory jog.

Diva, like you, I can’t face anything but coffee (or perhaps tea) until I’ve been up a good 2 hours. It must be genetic because I know lots of people who wake up starving. Not me.

And how do you shape pancakes like heffalumps? Cookie cutter or free form?
